Are you responsible?
When undergoing orthodontic treatment with Invisalign there are four major new responsibilities that get added to your plate. You are responsible for:
- Keeping your system clean
- Being careful not to lose your clear aligners
- Remembering to put them back in your mouth after eating or cleaning
- Changing your set every two weeks
How much work do you need done?
Usually, Invisalign is recommended to those who do not need much work done. We here at Akavan Orthodontics believe that this system is great for fixing smaller issues including: over- or under-bites, overcrowding, gapped teeth, and general spacing issues. However, more major work such as raising and/or lowering teeth, or large tooth spacings, are usually better suited for traditional metal braces.
Will Invisalign fit into your lifestyle?
One major benefit to Invisalign is that it is virtually invisible. Because of this, this system is geared towards teens and adults who prefer to undergo orthodontic treatment discretely. Additionally, being clear and removable allows patients can keep their diet the same without the limitations of traditional metal braces. A drawback for many however is that you need to remove your clear aligners every time you eat (e.g., if you are out to dinner with friends, family, or colleagues and have to take out your aligners).
How much time and money can you afford to spend on treatment?
Going back to if Invisalign will fit into your lifestyle, something for future patients to think about is that although treatment with this system is usually quicker than with traditional metal braces, this timespan depends on their efforts. Also, with this system, appointments are more frequent, and it is important to decide if you can allot that amount of time to make it to our office near Woodland Hills, CA. In terms of cost, Invisalign is usually more expensive than traditional metal braces are. Depending on how much work needs to be done on a patient’s teeth, traditional braces can cost between $1,200 and $3,000, while Invisalign can cost anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000.
